الوصفDefence Minister Rajnath Singh commissions INS Khanderi at Mumbai (7).jpg |
English: INS Khanderi, the second of the Kalvari Class diesel electric attack submarines of the Indian Navy, was commissioned on 28 September 2019 by the Hon’ble Raksha Mantri, Shri Rajnath Singh. Built indigenously by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd, INS Khanderi is a lethal addition to Indian Navy’s conventional submarine arsenal and is designed for silent and stealthy sub surface operations. At a formal ceremony held at Naval Dockyard, Mumbai, the Raksha Mantri inspected a Guard of Honour before unveiling the commissioning plaque.
Addressing an august gathering at the Naval Dockyard Mumbai, the Raksha Mantri described the commissioning of INS Khanderi as "a proud moment for the Nation, the Indian Navy and MDL". He thanked the French Government and His Excellency Emmanuel Lenain, the Ambassador of France to India, for the continued partnership and growing synergy between India and France. "It's a matter of great pride for us that India is one of the few countries capable of constructing submarines", he said. He congratulated the Indian Navy for induction of the potent platform and expressed his confidence in the Commanding Officer and the Crew of Khanderi. He also complimented the Western Naval Command for an impressive Guard of Honour and expressed his keenness to interact with the officers and sailors of the Navy at sea. INS Khanderi is the follow-on to INS Kalvari, which was the first of the French origin Scorpene class submarines being indigenously constructed in India and commissioned by the Hon’ble Prime Minister in 2017. First put out to sea in 2017, INS Khanderi has undergone comprehensive sea trials, torpedo and missile firings to validate her fighting capability. She was handed over to the Indian Navy on completion of trials on 19 September 2019. At 67.5 meters long and 12.3 meters high, Khanderi embodies cutting edge technologies that ensure stealthy, silent operations underwater and is equipped with an array of torpedoes, missiles and sensors that enable her to detect, identify and destroy enemy targets. The crest of Khanderi depicts three sail ships at peak of the crown, symbolising India’s rich maritime heritage. The design of the lower part has the Ashoka Chakra flanked by a Horse and a Bull on either side with a plaque bearing the ship’s name in Devanagiri script. Khanderi’s motto “Akhand Abhedya Adrishya” signifies the indomitable spirit of the stealth platform. The Submarine inherits her name from the original INS Khanderi, which was a Soviet origin Foxtrot Class submarine, inducted into the Indian Navy in 1968. The original Khanderi participated in the 1971 war. |
