I start with an excerpt from "RAAKH" a novel by Mustansar Hussain Tarar:

تو اب جیسا کہ آغا حشر کے ڈراموں میں منظر بدلتا ہے تو منظر بدلتا ہے

یہ وہی آغا صاحب ہیں کہ اگر آپ چوک مزنگ سے چو برجی کی جانب سفر کرتے ہیں آپ کے دائیں بائیں آگے پیچھے اہل وطن بھی ایک بھگدڑ کے عالم میں سفر کرتے ہیں تو رکتی اور بمشکل بحال ہوتی ٹریفک کی غلیظ دلدل میں اپنےآپ کو شدید گرمی میں کوستے، یعنی اگر گرمیوں کا موسم ہے تو، جب آپ میانی صاحب قبرستان کی گذرتی قبروں کو دیکھتے ہیں تو وہیں ایک لوح پر موصوف کا نام دیکھتے ہیں ۔۔۔۔۔ اور نقل کتبہ کتبہ باشد ۔۔۔۔

  “ اظہار حقیقت مبنی بر حقیقت “

ایک اک تمثیل تیری وقت کا تھی شاہکار پھر گئی تیری دہائی مچ گئی تری پکار تیری تصنیفات کے اوصاف آئینے بے شمار لکھنے بیٹھوں میں تو صبح حشر بھی ہو آشکار پھر بھی نظم و ضبط سے باہر ہو جولانی تیری بند سے باندھی گئی کب حشر طغیانی تیری

I read the novel years back and I was in Lahore on couple of occasions and took a stroll along Mazang Chowk - Choburji out skirting Miani Sahab Graveyard with some dedicated onlooking to find the grave of the Indian Drama Giant but could not. Miani Sahab is a jumbo maze of graves and on occasions you don't find what you are so dearly looking for. It was a couple of weeks back that WE were in Lahore and we went back to Miani Sahab to rehearse the stroll mentioned in the above excerpt. The luck had it and the very first group of undertakers in the graveyard we met indicated the grave just 3 - 4 yards away from where we were standing. Things had changed from the times of Mustansar Sahab's description and so was the gravestone. I could not find Munshi Dil Lakhnavi's Qata' e Tareekh e Wafaat, but the gravestone bore a somber look with all the vigor and vibrance of Agha Sahab's roaring dialogues absorbed smoothly into an earthen pile of dust. We paid homage to a drama great of his time whose legacy goes on.
